Living E'town's Ultimate Summer Bucket List
Every parent hates to hear the dreaded words “I’m bored!!!” only a few days into to summer break. Here is your ultimate guide to combat summer boredom, and inspire you to enjoy your summer to the fullest. This list may even spark your imagination to come up with some of your own summer bucket list ideas. Cheers to no boring summers!
Try a picnic in Freeman Lake Park, and feed the ducks.
Go for a swim or canoe or paddle boat ride at Freeman Lake.
Make s'mores with all the toppings. Think outside of the box and have white choclate and blackberries to layer in the graham crackers or a shortbread cookie. Then go camping in your back yard. Make sure to bring a jar to catch fireflies.
Have a homemade pizza grilling back yard party. Invite your friends over, and play a game of wiffle ball or bochi ball.
Paint rocks. Collect all sorts of rocks and go hide them around town for others to pick up and fine.
Have a sleepover.

Go to a summer matinee or drive-in movie. Or, maybe even better borrow a projector and hang up a sheet in your back yard and have your own summer matinee under the stars.
Go picking for summer berries. Find a farm that lets you pick (some even let you pick for free if you forage from certain areas). Then take everything you picked home to make a dessert from scratch. There is nothing better then a fresh blackberry or blueberry pie.
Atend an outdoor concert. Just a short dirve away every Wednesday night there is Waterfront Wednesday in Louisville which hosts a myriad of great bands and good food.
Ride a ferris wheel and go to an amusement park.
Take a road trip. Pick a spot on the map, get in your car and just drive. There are very few activities in this world that are as fun-filled and as exhilarating as going on a road trip either solo or with your best friends. Be spontaneous!
Attend a parade or festival.
Plant a garden. Gardening can be a lot of fun and growing your own herbs is a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle and teach the same to your kids. They will definitely have a blast digging in the soil and planting seeds, growing seedlings and watering them. You don’t need a lot of space and the vessel can be anything from a wooden crate to a mason jar to an old tire.
Fly a kite.
Be a tourist in your own city. Check out the history of Elizabethtown, walk around and take in eveyrhting locally that this town has to offer. You could even stop in the history museum and basketball hall of fame.
Attend a show at the State Theater.
Creat your own production. Get family or friends together and put on a play or creat your own YouTube channel.
Ride a hot air balloon. Take yourself to new heights and see what the world looks like from a birds-eye view. Here is a list of all the balloon festivals in Kentucky.
Read a good book in a hammock.
Make tie-dye t-shirts or come up with your own craft to do do.
Run through sprinklers and make a slip-in-slide.
Go wine tasting. Herb and Olive Market just openned a wine bar with a small tastings menu that would make the perfect spot for a relazing evening. This would make the perfect date night.
Go to a baseball game.
Learn to fly fish at Freeman Lake.
Go 24 hours without television or internet. See what you and yours can come up with without the noise and distractions. You may want to have peace and quiet more often after this short break.
Have a water balloon fight.
Volunteer at a local food bank. Feeding America, Kentucky’s Heartland is located here in Hardin County and can always use a helping hand.
Play disc golf.
Take your dog to the dog park.
Spend a morning together and enjoy the farmer’s market. The Hardin County Farmer’s Market is great and filled with produce, grass-fed beef, and flowers. Kids always enjoy it and there sometimes activities for them. They always come away with a treasure or cookie from one of the stands, and sometimes the sweet farmers give it to them for free.
Run a themed 5k with the family.
Watch the sunset OR rise.
Get a pedicure.
Go on a hike. Freeman Lake has some nice paths, or you could take a short trip to Bernheim Forest or Red River Gorge for even more of an adventure.
Go bowling.
Go golfing.
Chase down an ice cream truck.
Go camping under the stars. Set up a tent in your back yard to make it easy, or go find set up a spot in one of the great camping spots here aroudn Kentucky.
Get a new haricut.
Plan a weekend vacation. For a simple and cheaper get-a-way get an Airbnb and explore a town that you never have been before. A near-by destination to explore could be Nashville, TN, Madison, IN, or Cincinnati, OH.
Go to the Kentucky State Fair August 15-25th.
